Cookie Banner Modes

In this article we analyse in detail the different banner modes that you can select from the app.

Informational

All cookies (essential & non-essential) are allowed by default when pages load and cannot be blocked. The banner message and wording should only inform the visitor about the cookie policy of the website and why cookies are used. The banner has by default one action button called Dismiss. Optionally, a second action button called Decline may be added. If the DISMISS button is clicked, the banner closes and full consent to the cookie policy is implied. If the Decline button is clicked, then the visitor is redirected away of the website (to an external page, e.x. google.com). This is the simplest (loose) mode but not recommended for strict GDPR compliance.

Decline-only

All cookies (essential & non-essential) are allowed by default when pages load and are blocked only when/if the user selects to opt out. The banner message and wording should inform the visitor about the cookie policy of the website and why non-essential cookies (Marketing & Analytics) are used. The banner has two action buttons called Decline and Dismiss, with the Dismiss button being highlighted. If the Dismiss button is clicked, the banner closes and full consent to the cookie policy is implied. If the Decline button is clicked, then, depending on other configuration options offered by the application, the visitor is either redirected away of the website (to an external page, e.x. google.com) or non-essential cookies are blocked for future page loads and minimum consent is implied. This mode is loose in terms of cookie policy.

Accept-only

All non-essential cookies (Marketing & Analytics) are blocked by default when pages load and are only unblocked when/if the user selects to Accept. The banner message and wording should inform the visitor about the cookie policy of the website emphasizing why are the essential cookies allowed and cannot be blocked and how unblocking the non-essential cookies would enhance the visitor’s experience in the store. The banner has one action button called Accept which is highlighted. Optionally, two more buttons can be added, first the X (Close) that behaves as Dismiss action and second the Leave Site option that redirects the user outside the store. If the Dismiss button is clicked, then the banner closes with only essential cookies allowed and minimum consent is implied. If the Accept button is clicked, then the banner closes with all cookies allowed and full consent is implied. If the Decline button is clicked, then the visitor is redirected out of the website (to an external page, e.x. google.com). This mode is strict in terms of cookie policy.

Accept/Decline

Only strictly necessary cookies allowed initially. Accept button allows all cookies and Decline button allows only strictly necessary cookies. Both buttons close the banner. This mode is strict in terms of cookie policy.

Custom preferences

You may configure which cookies categories to allow by default on pages load. Visitor is able to customize which categories to block/unblock. The banner message and wording should be aligned with the default cookies allowed. The banner has two action buttons called Dismiss and Preferences, with the Dismiss button being highlighted. Optionally, a third action button called Decline may be added. If the dismiss button is clicked, then the banner closes with default cookies being allowed with full consent being implied. If the preferences button is clicked, a popup opens to allow the visitor to select the cookie categories to be allowed. If the Decline button is clicked, then the visitor is redirected out of the website (to an external page, e.x. google.com).
